Bicycle Texas!

The MS150

By TJ Bustem

I made the big ride! It didn't start out too well, but ended great. We started out Saturday morning under a 90% chance of rain and we weren't let down by their forecast as it started raining shortly after we started and rained for about 5 hours. It was not only wet, but cold. Whenever we would stop we were instantly cold and didn't warm back up until we rode about 3 or 4 miles. At lunch we sat hunkered up in a big building at the Fayette County Fair Grounds. We pondered the thought of catching a ride to the half way point on the SAG bus. I saw a guy from work and he said the sun was shining about 20 miles up the road. This was great news and all it took to change our minds. Sure as we had been told, it quit raining and the sun came out shortly after lunch. It was so refreshing . It was like a whole different ride. I rode 96.7 miles the first day. The second day started off foggy and cool. When the fog burned off we had a blue sky all the way to Austin. The wind was never a factor and boy was I glad. After the 72.5 mile ride to the finish the trip was complete. I talked to a lady who was riding for someone with MS and it made me feel good for making the commitment I had. I want to thank all of you who helped sponsor me on behalf of those suffering from this disease and for those who will be helped in the future by the money raised by this event.
